Yakima Valley Official Travel Guide 2026

40 YAKIMA VALLEY WATERWAYS MOUNTAIN LAKES Take the short drive from Yakima along Highway 12 or State Route 410 for adventures on pristine mountain lakes with picture-perfect views. • Rimrock Lake’s expansive, clear blue waters are easily explored by SUP, kayak or boat. Anglers find kokanee and rainbow trout in the cool waters. • Clear Lake is a much smaller, peaceful lake with beautiful areas for both motorized and non-motorized craft, depending on which site you choose. Fish here for rainbow trout. The Clear Lake Day Use Area offers paved trails, nature walks, wildlife viewing, picnic areas and an accessible barrier-free trail. • Bumping Lake is perfect for a day-long excursion from Yakima. It’s a popular place for boating, fishing and paddling, along with trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. With the Yakima Valley’s reliably sunny skies come summertime highs. Six rivers and dozens of lakes and ponds all around the Yakima Valley mean you’ll find plenty of places to keep cool, whether fishing, floating, boating or paddling is your preference. TIETON & NACHES RIVERS Best known for the Tieton Flip Flop, the Tieton River becomes a wild ride on Class III rapids every September. This special time of year happens when water releases from Rimrock Lake reservoir, turning the Tieton into the “fastest moving, fastest dropping river in the State”, according to Blue Sky Outfitters. Book your guided river ride with them for a fall adventure. The nearby Naches River is also known for its wilder waters in the spring and summer. In the fall, calmer flows make it a beautiful destination for wade fishing, especially with Red’s Fly Shop and Girls with Grit guided experiences. YAKIMA RIVER Recently named one of the top three fly fishing rivers in the U.S. in the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, the Yakima River is Washington’s only blue-ribbon trout stream. It’s also a popular place for paddling and leisurely floats surrounded by the canyon’s dramatic basalt formations. • Make Red’s Fly Shop your go-to stop for gear, guided fishing trips, classes and one-of-a-kind river cruise tours. • Check out Rill Adventures for kayak, SUP and raft rentals, along with guided trips on the Yakima River. • Girls with Grit offers unique SUP clinics on the Yakima River, as well as women’s fly fishing classes and excursions to learn, laugh and fish.
