MAESTRO & SOLOISTS OF THE AUGUST 2-13, 2025 SUMMER FESTIVAL: Hailed for presenting engaging, in-depth explorations of thoughtfully curated programs, American conductor Brett Mitchell currently serves as Music Director of the Pasadena Symphony and Artistic Director & Conductor of Sunriver Music Festival. He previously served as Music Director of the Colorado Symphony, Associate Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra, and Assistant Conductor of the Houston Symphony and Orchestre National de France. Working widely as a guest conductor, Mitchell’s recent engagements have included appearances with the Dallas, Detroit, Fort Worth, Houston, National, San Francisco, and Vancouver Symphonies; the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl; the Cleveland and Minnesota Orchestras, and a two-week tour with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He regularly collaborates with the world’s leading soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Itzhak Perlman, and more. Mr. Mitchell holds degrees in conducting from the University of Texas at Austin and composition from Western Washington University. Proclaimed“a phenomenon”by the Los Angeles Times and“one of the best pianists of his generation”by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished concert pianist, improviser and composer. Mr. Goodyear has performed with, and has been commissioned by, many of the major orchestras around the world. Stewart Goodyear is featured in Sunriver Music Festival’s August 2 classical concert: “A French Soirée.” A modern player with a signature sound and distinctive style of playing, cellist Mark Kosower embodies the concept of the complete musician performing as concerto soloist with symphony orchestras, in solo recitals, and as a much admired and sought-after chamber musician. He is principal cello of The Cleveland Orchestra and a scholar and cello teacher. Mark Kosower is featured in Sunriver Music Festival’s August 7 classical concert: “The Classical Tradition.” Born in Henan, China, Yi Zhao was offered a first violin position in the Minnesota Orchestra in June 2023, and in fall 2024 was appointed principal second violin. Prior, Zhao was the assistant concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony for nine seasons. For the past six summers, Zhao has been regularly performing at the Grand Teton Music Festival and Joined Sunriver Music Festival as its concertmaster in 2023.
