United by their passion for pastries, Ingrid Sarlandie and Francois Bernaudin run the beloved Bonjour Bakehouse in San Mateo. After experiencing burnout from her work as a mechanical engineer, Ingrid decided to return to her first love of baking (which comes from many a fond, flour-y memory of cake making with her mother and grandmother). She teamed up with Francois, who honed his craft in France and later rose to the lofty rank of executive pastry chef at Austral, one of Tokyo’s top French restaurants. The French duo bonded over a shared a mission to bring a French touch to American classics, meaning they import their butter from France and implement seasonal fruit from frequent trips to the Farmer’s Market (a way of life in France). Recognizing both their excellence and enthusiasm, the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce elected their shop this year’s Best Bakery in San Mateo. While they focus on cookies and cookie mixes online, Ingrid and Francois invite guests to come say “Bonjour” at their brick-and-mortar shop where they also serve coffee, of course French croissants, sweet and savory scones, and a plethora of other pastries. They also hope you will consider them for your holiday needs this upcoming Christmas season and have a seasonal collection planned for those looking for the perfect sweet gift including customized gift notes and stickers.
